The Volume of Fish and Seafood Exports from The Republic of Karelia Has Grown By 19 Times

Following the results of the first half of 2013, Russia exported 884 thousand tonnes of fish, crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS: Group 03). This figure is 9% higher than last year. In 2012, Russia exported 809 thousand tonnes of fish and seafood for the first 6 months. Growth of total export indices has been primarily provided by the Russian province Primorsky District. The supply of fish and other seafood in this region increased by 25% – from 289 thousand tons to 362 thousand tons. The maximum growth rate is in The Republic of Karelia. The volume of exported fish there grew 18.7 times – from 318 tons to 5.9 tons. Fish and seafood from Moscow has been exported 5.3 times more than the year before. The region of Murmansk has increased deliveries by 2.2 times – from 12 thousand tons up to 28 thousand tons. In the Magadan area, the volume of exported fish has increased by 27% – from 22 thousand tons up to 28 thousand tons.

The Russian Far Eastern Regions: Primorsky District, Kamchatka District, Khabarovsk District, Sakhalin District, and Magadan District provide almost all of the fish, crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates that Russia sells to other countries. They account 90% of total exports. /See table 1/

For six months this year, Russia imported from other countries 1,435 tons of fish and seafood. The figure was 1,401 thousand tons last year; the increase for the year was 2%. Growth of imports has been provided by Primorsky District. This region began to import 11% more than 2012. Magadan region became the leader in the growth rate. Import of fish and seafood on the territory of this region increased by 32%, from 26 tons to 35 tons compared to the last year. There is 22% increase in deliveries in the Arkhangelsk region. Despite the overall positive trend of imports, the volume of imported fish and seafood declined in some regions. Therefore, it was imported 37% less on the territory of Murmansk region and the fish shipments declined from 91 thousand tons to 57 thousand tons. It has also been imported 7% less in the region of St. Petersburg.

About 75% of the total import volume is accounted for the Primorsky and Kamchatka District, Sakhalin District, as well as Moscow and St. Petersburg. /See Table 2/

According to Fishretail, the maximum increase of the average wholesale price of pink salmon is marked in Moscow on the 33rd week of the present year. It went up to 7% and 77.96 RUB/kg. 

An increase in the average price tag of 6% is observed in the poutassou up to 28.74 RUB/kg, 5.5% – the squid up to 94.92 RUB/kg, 3% – the pollack up to 72.78 RUB/kg. The growth of the average cost of 0.5% has been observed in Alaska pollack up to 59.42 RUB/kg and hake up to 95.96 RUB/kg. Slight decline in the average wholesale price of 0.2% has been observed in cod up to 79.07 RUB/kg, as well as herring (fish carcass 300–350+) up to 63.98 RUB/kg. There is a 2.8% decrease in the average wholesale price in the perch (calibre 300–500+), now it costs 149, 41 RUB/kg.

A negative trend in the average wholesale prices for most items has been marked in St. Petersburg last week. Thus, the average price of mackerel (400–600) decreased by 3% and dropped to 93.70 RUB/kg. The decline in the average wholesale price of 2.5% has been observed in Baltic herring up to 31.05 RUB / kg, as well as in spotted catfish up to 112.56 RUB/kg, 2% – in the blue catfish up to 49.05 RUB /kg and in pink salmon up to 73.42 RUB/kg. Herrings (fish carcass 300–350+) and hake decreased by 1.7%. Now, their average wholesale price is 53.76 RUB/kg and 93.33 RUB/kg, respectively. The cod price is reduced by 0.5% and dropped to the level of 82.29 RUB/kg. The price of Alaska pollack (59.38 RUB/kg) and perch (153.33 RUB/kg) has left at about the same level last week. The price of poutassou grew up by 1.2% reaching 25.95 RUB/kg, by 2.6% in Pollack reaching 73.48 RUB/kg. There was a maximum increase (+4.5%) of the average price tag in squid for the previous week. Now it costs 85.46 RUB/kg.
