THE REPUBLIC OF DAGESTAN WILL HAVE PROVIDED MORE THAN A BILLION ROUBLES ON DEVELOPMENT OF FISHERIES BY 2017

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic reported on 5th November that 1081 million roubles will be allocated on development of fisheries in Dagestan for 2014—2016, including another 900 million from the federal budget.

According to the Ministry, the allocating funds will mainly focus on the establishment of fish farms in different municipalities, as well as on the support of existing farms in order to increase the volume of production. Money will be used to subsidize the manufacturers’ product cost for purchasing fish stocking, feed, paying water transportation or interest on loans for fishery development.

As a result, fish production should be increased in three times in the year 2016 while the aquaculture growth should be increased twice. In addition, 1,400 jobs will be created, and tax revenues to the national budget could reach more than 100 million roubles a year.

The ministry also reported that the amount and sources of funding will be adjusted annually based on the capabilities of the republican and federal budgets. Thus, the size of the allocated funds was reduced in 2014, as they were not provided in federal budget. The funds allocated from the state budget were limited to the amount of 20 million roubles.

It should be noted that the volume of water resources extraction in Dagestan for the last 15 years has declined four times and now constitutes 4, 5 thousand tonnes. Low degree processed products become the basis of production and it constitutes over 80% of sold fish products. In addition, there is the problem of illegal fishing of sturgeon fish, which is practically extirpated.
